THE HISTORY OF

Dockside

From Industry to Lifestyle ...

From Industry

For much of the 20th century, Kangaroo Point was home to heavy engineering and a rich maritime and industrial heritage. Before Federation in 1901, it housed Queensland Navy’s main storage facility. In 1939, Evans Deakin began shipbuilding at Moar’s Slip, launching 83 vessels over 36 years – including the oil tanker Robert Miller in 1973.

After the maritime industry declined, the dockyards sat idle until the late 1980s. The peninsula then began its transformation into a residential haven, with high-rise developments (like Dockside) leading the way.

The suburb’s name, Kangaroo Point, is said to come from the kangaroos that once roamed the area before development began.

to Lifestyle

Today, Kangaroo Point is a vibrant mix of modern apartments and heritage Queenslander homes. The northern end features luxury towers and riverside living, while the southern end retains more low to medium-density housing and character-filled streets.

With river views, walkable amenities and a connected community, living at Macleay Tower & Villas in Kangaroo Point means enjoying the best of Brisbane!

Whether you’re heading out for dinner, catching the ferry or strolling the boardwalk, Kangaroo Point offers a lifestyle that’s both relaxed and refined.
